''At the northern end of the peninsula, and seperated from the city centre, is a group of ruins identified by the inscriptions as those of Arymaxa, a deme of Lydae. The name is otherwise quite unknown. Not much remains apart from some Byzantine structures and numerous tombs. There is, however, a small fort near the isthmus which joins the peninsula to the mainland, and a late or even modern, wall accross the isthmus itself. A steep and difficult path leads up from the shore below.'' (G. E. Bean)1
